What Is a Meme Coin?

A meme coin is a crypto token whose market value is often driven primarily by attention, community identity, humor, speculation, and short-lived narratives. It may have little or no claim on productive assets or cash flow, and its price can move sharply in either direction.

01

What drives meme coin value

Demand can change with social attention, community coordination, listings, creator behavior, and market-wide risk appetite. These inputs are difficult to value and can disappear quickly.

02

Meme coins on Solana

Solana supports low-cost, high-throughput token activity, which can make creation and trading accessible. Accessibility does not reduce token, liquidity, smart contract, venue, or behavioral risk.

03

Basic due diligence

No checklist proves a token is safe, but basic inspection can expose obvious concentration and liquidity problems.

  • Verify the token mint
  • Inspect liquidity and exit depth
  • Review holder concentration
  • Understand supply and creator activity
04

Copying adds another risk layer

A followed wallet entered under earlier conditions. The follower may face a higher price, less liquidity, additional fees, and a later exit. A profitable source trade can become an unprofitable copied trade.

  • Different entry time
  • Different available liquidity
  • Separate transaction costs
  • Different exit outcome
05

Principal can be lost

Meme coins can fall to little or no recoverable value. Only use capital you can afford to lose, and do not treat popularity, a wallet's trade, or a paper result as financial assurance.
